India’s history and culture is both rich and ancient. The rishis and sages of old spent much time communing with the divine and cultivating systems of medicine, comprehensive health, science and philosophy that would lead us and future generations to this inner space. These systems all share the common belief that we are hard-wired to experience peace, indeed, that it is our birthright. Eventually these systems became what is known as the Shad Darshan of India, or the Six Philosophies of Life.

Yoga is the most common and widely spread of the Shad Darshans. Most often translated as “union” in Sanskrit, Yoga more appropriately means “the beneficial combination of two things”, e.g. you and God. This particular combination yields the highest health, peace and happiness. Āyurveda, the Science of Life, is India’s 5,000 year old system of medicine and well-being. While not being a separate Darshan Āyurveda receives much of its foundation from Yoga and another Darshan, namely Sānkya. Ayuryoga then is the blending together of the invaluable knowledge from both Āyurveda and Yoga to create a comprehensive system to best work with the individual’s unique constitution and needs. Ayuryoga was created by Dr. Vasant Lad of the Āyurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to aid individuals in finding the inner peace and health so important to the ancient sages. Richard graduated from the inaugural Ayuryoga class in Spring of 2014 taught by Maria Garre and Dr. Vasant Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute. It is this knowledge, the blessings of Vasant Lad, and also his insight from his 17 year Yoga practice that Richard shares in his private Yoga and Ayuryoga sessions.

Each Ayuryoga Chikitsa (protocol) is unique for the individual and may include personalized:

– Prānāyāma (breathing exercises)

– Dietary recommendations

– Āsana (postures)

– Dinacharyā (Routine)

An Ayuryoga consultation is $90. Typical sessions/consultations are 1 1/2 hours in length and are highly tailored to the individual.
